Rare *ORIGINAL* 1957 Winter Carnival Dartmouth Skiway Poster

RARE Winter Carnival 1957 *ORIGINAL* Poster. Sold AS-IS. Dartmouth Skiway art. In 1940, John Ryland Scotford was a gifted artist studying at Dartmouth and created one of the finest Dartmouth Winter Carnival posters. He went on to become the head of design at Dartmouth and led a successful graphic design career. His delightful Dartmouth Skiway is one of the most eye-catching ski posters of the Mid-Century era. Relaxed and playful, its look is all angular and geometric forms, from the Jetson-like figures, to the Skiway Lodge architecture, Dairy Queen mountain peak and even the snowflakes falling in a grid. The futuristic vibe befit the early space age era perfectly. In 1969 when Dartmouth celebrated its 200th anniversary, Scotford created a Lone Pine bicentennial symbol that began the institution’s move away from the Indian mascot and imagery, officially retired by the trustees in 1974. 22" x 28". Grade: A (Very Fine). See detailed photos. Your poster will ship within 5 business days from purchase.
